Adderall
Adderall is an oral medicine used in patients with diagnosed hyperactivity; the medicine is also used as an appetite suppressant as a part of weight loss program. Adderall belongs to a class of amphetamines.
Adderall stimulates the release of the third neurotransmitter, norepinephrine, which stimulates the central nervous system. It may also increase the available level of serotonin. At higher doses, Adderall stimulates the release of dopamine. Impact on the dopamine system contributes to the development of addiction to this drug.
Doctors prescribe amphetamines for various medical purposes such as to help suppress the appetite during dieting and as a part of weight loss routines, for patients with such conditions as narcolepsy and hyperactivity disorders. Previously, amphetamine was used in inhalers for allergies and asthma, but this practice was prohibited because of the toxic effects of amphetamine discovered in the course of the later studies.
Adderall is one of the most famous of amphetamine prescription forms. The drug is used to treat hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder (also known as ADHD and ADD) in children, adolescents and adults. Amphetamines that are known to "accelerated" normal people have a calming effect on those with attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity.
Amphetamines have a pleasant stimulating effect on the body. They increase mental and physical energy and provoke soft mild euphoria. Tolerance to such drugs is rapidly developing making them fall into a class of habit-forming medicines, and therefore constantly need to increase the dose.
Patients with Adderall abuse develop the following side effects:
• Irregular heartbeat, palpitations
• Indigestion
• Chattiness
• Euphoria
• Sleep Disorders
• Anxiety
• Disorientation in time and space
• Paranoia
• Irritability
• Aggression
• Heart Attack
• Hallucinations
If amphetamine is prescribed by a physician for medical reasons, the drug is generally safe.
Discontinuation of amphetamine is similar to the withdrawal of cocaine dependence which is characterized by irritability, fatigue, sleepiness, overeating, memory loss and mental confusion.
